Australian consumer perception of Cell Cultured Meats

More information

I am currently completing a Masters in Human Nutrition, which I started due to concerns regarding nutritional knowledge and education arising from over fifteen years as a school teacher. Having lived and worked in Victoria as both a teacher and fitness instructor before moving to Queensland in 2019, I have seen various interpretations of healthy nutrition and a lack of engagement and interest with unique or novel foods.

Opportunities to travel, work and study in various settings both nationally and internationally afforded insight into numerous dietary formats, enabling a broadened awareness of food and nutrition.

A keen interest in research and a desire to maintain awareness of new nutritional approaches has led to my interest in cellular agriculture and the emerging cultivated meats field. Investigating the drivers of food choice and understanding the perceptions of Australian consumers regarding cultivated meats, and the ramifications of this on future dietary directions, is an exciting opportunity. I envisage furthering my research to effect broader understanding of food choice and options in society, particularly at the youth and adolescent level, to better guide access to nutritious food offerings on a global scale.
